Autumn is most well known for it's Monarchy government - while one Royal House rules over the whole of the city, many others are organized around other tasks and responsibilities for the city. It's also one of the two cities close to a Feuilles Fields, and as such has half-way homes available for those who enter the city and have no place to live on their own, with guidance to help get them on their feet, and finding a career to go into, and the Royal Houses are a part of that process as well.
History
The Feuilles Fields were the first lands to spawn BNNUY02s in the Burrow. Near these lands, the BNNUY02s settled mainly in two areas: what became Winter, and what became Autumn. There has always been a bit of a rivalry between the two settlements over which one really came first, and Autumn can still be a little bitter about the documents recorded in Winter that just barely date earlier than their own, as Autumn tended to be less strict about keeping official records.
Autumn slowly but surely organized itself around the collaborative efforts of many small groups of BNNUY02s that all focused on different tasks. Eventually, these groups developed their own in-house rules, titles, and familial-esque resource sharing that evolved into what is now known as the Autumn Royal Houses. Between the inherited hierarchical structure of the houses, their self-selection of new members, and the level of respect they receive from the rest of the city, the Autumn Royal Houses resemble traditional monarchies.
Government
The government of Autumn consists of a collection of Royal Houses that govern the city similarly to a monarchy. The Royal Houses tend to have short, simple names based on the world around them and their place in it. For example, the Moon House is in charge of managing the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is dedicated to the phases of the moon. Each Autumn Royal House has a heraldry of sorts, with House crests and associated colors. Many Autumn residents can instantly recognize houses with more prominently public responsibilities by their color schemes alone.
Houses also have a very strong familial bond, responsibility, and protectiveness to them. While there are certainly some houses with members who were born into them, due to Autumn’s proximity to the Feuilles Fields, many houses are more akin to found families instead. In fact during seasons of increased generation of new AI, it’s a tradition for houses to send representatives to the halfway houses where the newly generated AI are taken, to speak with them, and get an idea if any would be suitable to join their house.
Additionally above these houses, one additional house helps to coordinate between them, and is often the arbiter of when new houses should be created or existing houses have outlived their purpose. While today this place is taken by the Monsoon house, it has not always been. Historically this placement has very easily become controversial, and if enough of the rest of the houses rally behind a new house as lead, a coup can occur that displaces the existing ruling house.
Culture
Being close to one of the Feuilles Fields and the structure that evolved for the Autumn Royal Houses means that much of Autumn’s culture revolves around the sentiment of found family. Even those outside of the royal houses tend to live together in larger group homes where they share resources, skills, and time with each other. While those who have not joined one of these groups in the halfway houses are treated with respect and warmth, as time wanes and an AI hasn’t joined a pre-existing group they will find over time that they are treated with less warmth, and ignored in favor of those that have. This tendency is often the cause for many newly generated residents to eventually move on to one of the other locations in The Burrow.
Autumn additionally has some of its own farming, as the area surrounding the mountains that they live in is very flat and works well for hardier foods such as wheat, cotton, and other grains. This produce is the main trade that Autumn provides to other cities. They also mine the mountain for stone, gems, and other resources, though they can’t compete with the magic infused crystals that Winter is able to dig up and trade with.
