A snowy cold region, many BNNUY02s from outside the city would describe its residents in a similar fashion. They pride themselves on their academic capability, magical talent, and hospitals, such that many BNNUY02 from across the Burrow will travel to Winter if their own local healers have not been able to handle their malady. They care for one of the two Feuilles Fields and so it is normalized here for BNNUY02s to stay only a short while in the city before going on their way, though that doesn’t mean they don’t have a core community of lifetime residents.

History

The first BNNUY02 settlers in the area found solace in a river and a large cave structure in the mountains that sheltered them from the constantly snowy conditions of the region. This find - and the documentation of it - is the primary reason Winter is considered the oldest of the four Burrow cities.

As the cave system was explored, they found that many of them were filled with beautiful crystals, and quickly took to mining these crystals, wearing them as jewelry or otherwise keeping them on their person. Over time, the crystals would begin to meld with their wearers - particularly those with a greater affinity for magic. In fact magic users who took to the crystals in this way found their power amplified, and they began to build their community further through the use of these newfound abilities.

From the cave system they began building their city, quite literally carving out new rooms and caverns. Their main cavern had slowly evolved into a large sanctuary, the population growing as more BNNUY02 arrived from the Feuilles Fields . Those with magic used their ability to build structures that jutted out from the sides of the mountains, manipulating the structure of the stone into fantastical castles. Others would seek to build deeper into the ground, looking for more caverns of the crystals that they now so revered.

In the present, that first found cavern is now grander than it ever has been, and is the capital building that houses their council. The city continues to build further outward in all directions, some residences far below the surface, and some far above it.

Government

Winter’s government consists of some of the region’s greatest magic users: BNNUY02s with an impeccable grasp on the Burrow’s magic. Magic, intelligence, and faith are core qualities that Winter places its focus on, and the individuals in charge embody these traits.

The Council of Winter consists of an Archmage, who acts as the main voice of the city, and the Inner Circle, a select few who have worked their way to proving their dedication to Winter. When a new Archmage needs to be appointed, it is the Inner Circle who decides on the position.

Winter holds deep value in contributing to their community, and the residents who become part of the Inner Circle are those that have provided exceptional amounts of service to the city. Because of this, the Inner Circle almost always contains great magic users, who can construct shelters from thin air or heal the sick or injured. That isn’t to say there haven’t been instances of BNNUY02s without an affinity for magic, who have impressed the community well enough to be in the Circle.

Geography & Culture

The city of Winter resembles a dazzling scene one would find inside of a snowglobe. It is an elegant collection of tall stone buildings, many carved directly out of the mountains themselves. Fantastical spires and logistically implausible shapes are more common the higher into the mountains you go, though the real beauty of the city lies in its intricate tunnel network that burrows deep into the rock, sometimes even far below the ground level. There is always a comfortable amount of snowfall that peppers the region, and the residents of Winter tend to dress warmly.

This extreme climate and architecture greatly influence Winter’s culture - warmth and comfort are a major aspect of the community, and many of its traditions and pastimes keep in mind the warmth that can generate from a group of people. Its strong belief in the Burrow’s magic tends to make residents of Winter very faithful, and religious ceremonies are commonplace.
